Sonya Johnson, S.V.A.E.’s kindergarten and pre-first teacher, graduated with a BA. Degree in Elementary Education and Language Arts from Southern Adventist University. Southern Adventist University also awarded her the prestigious Student Teacher of the Year Award. Previously, Mrs. Johnson taught kindergarten in Ukiah, CA. Mrs. Johnson has taught at S.V.A.E. since 2006.

Nikki Zimmerman, S.V.A.E.’s first and second grade teacher, graduated from Columbia Union College with a B.S. in Liberal Arts for Elementary Education. After graduating from college she taught 1st Grade for seven years at Spring Valley Academy in Dayton, Ohio. In December 2006 Mrs. Zimmerman completed her Masters of Science in Education and Allied Professions with an emphasis in Special Education from the University of Dayton.

        Martha Williams, S.V.A.E.’s third and fourth grade teacher and the Vice Principal, graduated from JamesMadisonCollege with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education and Library Science. Mrs. Williams worked for three years at GrottoesElementary School as librarian and teaching small groups in math and reading. She also served during that time as Vice President of the Rockingham County Librarians Association. Mrs. Williams taught part-time for one year, and then full-time at S.V.A.E. since 1992. She has also served on the Columbia Union Curriculum Standards Subcommittee.

       James Minty, S.V.A.E.’s fifth and sixth grade teacher, graduated from AndrewsUniversity with a B.S. degree in Industrial Education and a business minor. Mr. Minty has been an educator for twenty-five  years. He has spent that time in teaching and administration. Mr. Minty has taught at S.V.A.E. since 2001, though he has taught in the Potomac Conference an additional ten years.

Gordon Miller, S.V.A.E.’s seventh and eighth grade teacher, graduated from Southern Adventist University with a B.S. degree in Physical Education with a history minor. Mr. Miller has been an educator for over twenty-five years, some as a teacher, some as an administrator. Mr. Miller has been teaching at S.V.A.E. since 1999. While at S.V.A.E., he has served on the Potomac Conference Technology Committee and is currently a member of the Potomac Conference Teacher’s Advisory Council.

Daveen Williams, S.V.A.E.’s special education teacher, graduated from La Sierra University with a Masters in Special Education and multiple subject credentials. She taught for a year at a SDA High School in Belize. Ms. Williams has taught at SVAE since 2003. Currently, Ms. Williams is also the Associate Director of Special Education in Potomac Conference.

       Joseph Fralick, S.V.A.E.’s principal, received a B.S. in Elementary Education from Union College where he graduated with honors in 1992. In December of 2009, he  received a Masters degree in Reading from Concordia University. Upon completion he will also become a Certified Reading Specialist. He brings 17 years of experience as an educator and school administrator, seven of which he spent in the Marshall Islands.


Julie Fralick, is S.V.A.E.'s math teacher for grades 2,3,5 and 7. She also teaches 7th and 8th Grade English. Mrs. Fralick received her B.S. in Elementary Education from Union College in 1995. Her professional accomplishments include co-authoring the Science Management and Resource Tool (S.M.A.R.T.) adopted by the NAD office of Education.
